Tourism must be part of the solution, not the problem. With this vision in mind, Skal Europe continues its annual tradition of rewarding excellence in sustainable tourism through the Skal Europe Sustainability Awards 2025.
Now in its fourth edition, the Awards aim to showcase and support the most innovative and impactful sustainability projects led by Skal members and their organizations. From hotels and tour operators to consultants and destination managers, Skal Europe is looking for outstanding initiatives that align with global sustainability goals while delivering concrete results in the tourism sector.
Who Can Apply
Applications are open to Skal Members who are actively involved in a project related to sustainable tourism. The candidate may be the author, owner, manager, or key contributor of the project.
Collaborative projects involving multiple stakeholders are welcome, as long as the applying Skal Member plays a clear and verifiable role in the initiative.
Eligible Projects
We accept candidatures in areas such as:
- Environmental sustainability (e.g., carbon reduction, biodiversity protection, renewable energy use)
- Social responsibility (e.g., community-based tourism, fair employment, accessibility)
- Circular economy in tourism (e.g., waste reduction, eco-design, sustainable procurement)
- Education and awareness (e.g., training programs, guest education, responsible travel campaigns)
- Sustainable destination management and governance
- Innovation in ESG integration for tourism businesses
Projects can be local, national, or international in scale, and may involve products, services, or governance practices.
Submission Guidelines
Each application must be submitted in English and include the following:
- Project Overview: A clear and concise description of the project’s objectives, implementation process, and timeline.
- Role of the Skal Member: A brief explanation of the applicant’s specific responsibilities and contributions.
- Sustainability Impact: Evidence of environmental, social, and/or governance outcomes. This may include data, reports, third-party validation, media coverage, or testimonials.
- Visual Materials: At least one high-quality photo of the project (JPG format, minimum 1500×1500 pixels). Additional photos, infographics, or short videos are encouraged.
- Supporting Documentation: Any documents that help clarify and substantiate the claims made.

Evaluation Criteria
Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of sustainability experts and Skal Europe Board members. Projects will be evaluated based on:
- Relevance to sustainable tourism goals
- Innovation and originality
- Impact on the environment, local communities, and/or the tourism industry
- Scalability and replicability
- Clarity and quality of presentation
Winners will be announced in December and featured on the Skal Europe website and communication channels.
